Marina. Story of a Communist – 2019
In 1959, Rocco Granata’s song ‘Marina’ achieved international success, topping the charts in Flanders, Norway, Germany and the United States. In Italy, it was at number one for four weeks, selling millions of copies and winning a gold disc.
In Taverna (CZ), the song, emptied of its content as a mere ditty, is filled with ideological meaning, becoming almost a political anthem that will characterise the country’s history for about thirty years.
Serving as a background to rallies, processions and victories, the song is inextricably linked to the man who gave the town a new face, lifting it from the dust of a dark past: Domenico Vavalà.
